PTC(UK) activities in Gaza June 2026
Every day, the team in Gaza continues to support the people on their recovery journey. The psychological services provide survivors of war and displacement with a humanitarian spirit, resilience exercises and safe spaces that restore hope and peace of mind.
Palestine Trauma Centre (UK) and its team of psychologists, support workers and volunteers have been tirelessly working to adjust the support that we offer to meet the ever-changing need on the ground.
PTC(UK)’s Therapy and Support approach
Specialised Psychotherapy
Individual and Group Sessions at the centre for sustained, regular treatment. There is less of this now because so many clients are displaced, which means that the team visit tent camps and other damaged or temporary homes more often.
Psychological Support
Safe Spaces for Listening, Debriefing, and Anxiety Relief. Focusing sessions for small groups. This is much needed for children. In groups they learn to breathe deeply in order to relax. They are invited to imagine a place where they would feel comfortable, relaxed and happy. They mentally distance themselves from negative emotions and regain a sense of safety. This builds self-confidence, encourages emotional expression and improves concentration and positive interaction with others. Emotional regulation enables them to face challenges in a calm balanced way. Some of these methods are integrated with the Sport Therapy project.
The PTC team also provide a range of activities that help traumatised people to strengthen their resilience and support a shift from negative to more positive perceptions. This focus on functionality means they can take better care of themselves and their families."
Safe Spaces for Children and Adults
Activities create a situation where it feels safe to express emotions, where space is given for grief and life stress to be heard. Several sessions especially for women are needed. Women are frequently the centre of stability in the family.
Trauma-Focused Therapy and Relief
Refugee camps are visited to alleviate trauma symptoms and enhance coping capacity, especially now for displaced people.
Healing, Guidance, and Community Counselling
Non-specialised interventions enhance safety, functionality and meaning, supporting individual and family coping strategies.
Occupational Therapy
This aims to restore the ability to perform daily activities independently to improve quality of life. Balance and muscle-strengthening exercises improve stability and motor control.
Sports Counselling Support
Structured physical activities promote mental health, release tension, and develop coping skills.
Days of Joy
Our popular street-based entertainment and activities sessions for kids and parents. Moments of joy and movement enhance resilience. A recent session with 200 children included many orphans. It also saw the return of our storyteller, Fedaa, who has been recovering from severe injuries.
