Gaza: On the inside, From the inside - a celebration of the power of healing through art

Gaza: On the inside, From the inside is a celebration of the power of healing through art. Join Palestine Trauma Centre (UK) in our latest project and experience the realities of life in the Gaza strip intimately told by its own inhabitants.

The project, envisioned long before the tragic events of 7th October 2023, represents a collaboration that was originally commissioned to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Nakba. The significance of the original meaning of the project has only been heightened by the events of the last 4 weeks. We invite you to join us and experience the realities, colour, hardships and warmth of a community and culture that is now suffering beneath the weight of the actions of so few.

Gaza: On the inside, From the inside offers you the chance to take a virtual walk through an art gallery, situated in an online space created specifically for the project. Observe, absorb, and interact with a curated collection of images that define the experiences of the people of Gaza, our staff, and the patients of our clinic in a new and innovative format.

Unlike many of the photographs that were being seen in the mainstream media prior to current events. The photographs curated for the gallery were chosen to give a personal perspective of life in Gaza from the people who live and work there. The photographers are documenting their lives with their cameras. Hence the title: ‘Gaza: On the Inside, From the Inside' - and not the outside looking in.

All the photographers either work for or are connected to Palestine Trauma Centre. They find beauty in everything they see and have the skill to transform raw subject matter into works of art.

In the words of one member of the Days of Joy team, it “transforms the meaning of the streets”. This is our message to all those who view it. Please share.

The ‘Gaza: On the inside, From the inside’ online virtual space will be available for anyone to browse for free and at any time as part of the work and output of Palestine Trauma Centre (UK) from 5pm on Saturday, 4th November 2023. It is the intention of the project to show the humanity and reality of the plight of so many of the inhabitants of Gaza. People who, through no fault of their own, have been caught up in the events of the last 4 weeks and whose lives and future will now be so immeasurably intertwined with the trauma that they are now being so unfairly asked to endure.
